Small Business Owner-Operator
Hi, I’m Dane
“See the trail, not the rocks.” A lesson learned from mountain biking and applied to life, this is how my grandpa taught me to see the world. It has shaped how I lead my family, how I work, and now, how I am approaching business ownership.
I am a Colorado-based husband, father of four, and acquisition entrepreneur. My goal is to strengthen the social fabric of my community through one of the most powerful tools for generating prosperity: small business. I believe that taking care of employees, customers, and my family isn’t a balancing act – it’s a flywheel whose virtuous cycle is a direct result of the systems and processes I build.
I’m not here for a passive investment or a quick flip. If you know of a company ready to sell in the next 6-12 months that could use an owner-operator with a steady hand, a clear vision, and plenty of kids to keep him humble, I’d love to connect.
Investment Criteria
Location
Sweet Spot. Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas. My family and I love this community and intend to stay.
Alternate. Small cities with mountains. Places like Fort Collins, CO, Rogue Valley, OR, Missoula, MT, and Bellingham, WA hit the mark.
International. If a move is required, might as well go big. I was born in Canada and have lived in Chile. Both are of interest, along with other South American, Spanish-speaking countries.
Size & Financing
Sweet Spot. $750k - $1.25M EBITDA, with an SBA loan, equity partners, and/or seller financing.
Smaller. As low as $500k EBITDA, financing with an SBA loan and without external equity partners. Growth outlook is key.
Larger. As high as $3M EBITDA, with strategic equity partners with board seats, conventional debt, and maintaining majority control.
Funding. My consulting contract with the Military Health System provides purpose and sustainability. Search patiently, close quickly.
Type & Industry
Sweet Spot. Healthcare or B2B services.
Business Strength. Searching in a narrow geography means more industry flexibility. The characteristics of the business matter more. Things like: quality of revenue, time in business, low customer and supplier concentration, AI-readiness, and growth opportunity.
No Fly Zone. Most restaurants and retail. Anything that would offend my grandma or embarrass me in front of my kids.
